Full details

Grammy-winning and two-time Oscar recipient Billie Eilish is negotiating to make her acting debut in a film adaptation of the classic novel The Bell Jar by American author Sylvia Plath.

The film is directed by Oscar-winner Sarah Polley, known for works such as Women Talking and Away from Her, who also wrote the screenplay. Focus Features is finalizing a deal to support and distribute the film in the United States.

The film is produced by Joy Gorman Wettels and the companies Plan B Entertainment and StudioCanal. The project originated through Joy Collison, a company founded by Gorman Wettels, in collaboration with Eilish and Polley before Focus Features joined.

The novel, published in 1963, follows the journey of a young woman named Esther Greenwood as she confronts mental illness and societal pressures. The story is semi-autobiographical, reflecting Plath's own struggles with depression prior to her tragic death. Eilish is set to portray Esther in the film.

This move suits Billie Eilish, known for her deep and dark songs, although there are currently no plans for her to contribute to the film's soundtrack.

It is worth noting that Eilish became the youngest artist to win two Oscars for Best Original Song in the history of the awards, for "No Time To Die" and "Barbie," and is the only artist born in the 21st century to receive these honors.
