Full details

Gummybear International and Toonz Media Group have announced their celebration of the 20th anniversary of the iconic Gummibär character, which has achieved widespread success since the release of its viral song "I’m a Gummy Bear" in 2006. They also confirmed plans to produce a feature-length film scheduled for release in 2027.

The Gummibär character was created by Christian Schneider and first appeared through a ringtone and music video that garnered billions of views and was translated into more than 45 languages. Its songs and albums have earned gold and platinum certifications in multiple markets.

The company began expanding the character’s content into longer formats in 2012 by producing an animated Christmas special titled "Yummy Gummy Search For Santa," released through Lionsgate Pictures. This special introduced supporting characters that continued in the animated series "Gummibär & Friends," produced in collaboration with Toonz Media Group. The digital series was distributed on platforms in over 100 countries and ran for two seasons, each consisting of 39 short episodes.

Brand Expansion and Global Significance

Viswanath Rao of Toonz Media Group stated that the Gummibär character has proven successful in digital storytelling and global reach, highlighting how the "Gummibär & Friends" series demonstrated the transformation of an internet-born character into a global animated brand.

The two companies are currently developing a feature film set for release in 2027. Meanwhile, the brand has expanded to include games, digital products, publishing, and other consumer product categories.

Debbie Rosenfeld, Head of Licensing and Marketing at Toonz, explained that Gummibär is not just a character but a cross-generational phenomenon capable of adapting to different cultures, platforms, and products, making it well-positioned for sustainable growth in licensing and marketing worldwide.

Ongoing Success and Impact

The Gummibär character continues to attract a growing audience across on-demand platforms, ad-supported platforms, and traditional broadcasting, with the company reporting annual increases in views and engagement.

Jürgen Kordulich, President of Gummybear International, noted that few characters maintain such momentum across decades, platforms, and generations. He emphasized that Gummibär is not merely a legacy brand but an ever-evolving universe with unlimited potential for entertainment, innovation, and fan engagement worldwide.
